Another great trip to Forgue Fishery.

Image
GCFflies finally got out for a fishing trip over the weekend and once more Forgue fishery did not let us down. We got to the water at about 9a,m and already there were two guys fishing at the far end of the Horseshoe pond for those that don't know that's the pond on the right-hand side of the hut. The water was high in each pond, but that's exactly what I expected due to the rain we have had over the last few weeks. But most importantly it was jin clear and there were a few fishing moving,( more likely taking buzzers) my first thought when I got there was to go a bit deeper and use the intermediate because it was quite cold and only sitting at about 4-5° on a small thermometer I had. But seeing the fish moving I decided I needed to have a closer look at the water before deciding what method I would use. When I stood at the water for about 5 minutes it was like a millpond not a breath of wind on the water so I could see loads of trout just cruising past and they were only ab

Well managed a day fishing on Sunday up at my not so local, local Forgue Fishery is located 36 miles from Aberdeen but well worth the 1-hour drive even though there are 3 or 4 fisheries closer. When we got there the water was still a bit green with algae but still very fishable and a few fish were rising. Myself and the son-in-law (Conner) decided to try the bung with an egg fly just under the surface with my second cast I had a nice Rainbow and Connor missed one after the other but that was it nothing much after that. So I decided to change to a dry fly set up with a Daddy on point and a CDC on the dropper and this was an instant hit but not fished dry I had to sink both of the flies and use varying speeds of retrieve from fast to dead slow. I had fish after fish just on and off but managed to get up to 8 before they went off the feed so made the decision to stay on the floating line but pull a lure this took me about 10 minutes to decide what fly to use and in the end decided to us

Well, today has been busy first off the vice today was some olive cormorants these are great fished on a floating line static using the wind to move the fly round or use a very slow figure of eight retrieve. Olive Cormorant tied on #10-#14 for £1 each. Must be a day of Cormorants as the next two flies are cormorant variants. A selection of Bunny Leeches was the next flies tied today the bunny leech is one of my own favorite lures to fish on the intermediate very slow figure of eight retreve. Also tied today was a selection of Mambas this is another fly I have used in fact had a day on one of my not-so-local local fishery and all 12 fish I caught that day were all on mambas pulled on the intermediate away to start on another order so look out for the next GCFflyshop update. And remember all the flies can be purchased on the website  or by contacting me on Facebook

Hi, all just thought how about every now and again I give you guys a rundown of my top 10 selling flies most will be from the website and some will be one-offs or flies I have sold on Facebook not sure if I will do it monthly might be a bit much but definitely do it every 2 or 3 months. In each blog, we will cover  1) The flies 2) methods to fish them 3) Pictures of the flies 4) Links to the fly on the shop 5) Will also include a money-off code for the top-selling flies. So in at number 10 is the orange Nano Bunny Leech this is a fly I personally have used loads of times and has not failed me even in the worst of weather fish it very slow on the intermediate line using a figure of eight retrieve and wait for the hard hits. Number 9 is one of the best color combos in any trout lure Orange & Black this one is the Orange & Black mini fritz  the 3 pictured are tied on size 14 wet hooks. Fish this fly on your favorite method as it will fish just as good on a floating line as it do

Trip to loch insch

Image
On Tuesday me and my brother had a trip up to Loch Insch Fishery.  First time being there and can say it looks great and definitely will be going back. We both caught 4 rainbows each and two of mine coming on the last 10 minutes of our tickets. All caught on a mixture of lures from GCFLY Shop , we both tried cormorants and other flies throughout the day with no luck.  Plenty of other takes for both of us if we weren’t so rusty. Will definitely be going back again shortly to try to beat our score.
