GCFflyshop at Forgue Fishery

Image
Well I was meant to post this on Monday morning but just haven’t had the time so typing this up a t half 1 in the morning, that’s dedication for you lol.   So on Sunday GCFflyshop and my future son-in-law had a day up at Forgue due to being quite busy with  tying fly orders and some other holdups I haven’t been since the longest day fishing challenge so was quite looking forward to getting up.   Let me start by saying it was so nice to see Bob back down at the fishery as the last time, I saw him he was not a very well man but was just great to see such an improvement in his health and was also great to have a long chat with him.   As for the fishery I was so pleased to see how good it was looking grass was all cut and best of all the ponds were looking great. In all the summer I have fish Forgue this is by far the best the water has looked.   As you come down the hill on the left you have brown trout so-called as that’s all that was stocked in it at one time this

GCFflyshop had a wee trip to one of our favorite fisheries Lochter in the northeast of Scotland the fishery is set in the rolling farm fields and just a few miles from the prominent  Bennachie, not the larges mountain but still a fantastic view from the fishery. This is quite an old picture of when it was quite new it is well established now and the two ponds at the top have been dug out and change since the picture was taken and seeing I can't fly or have a drone this picture will have to do lol Lochter has 3 large ponds the top two are called Osprey & Heron and  the muckle trout don't need to tell you which one that is all 3 are fly fishing only and 2 ponds for the non-fly fishers (bait Fishing) you will be told the bait pond when you turn up to fish.  All are stocked with the fantastic fish from Forgue fish farm another of my favorite fisheries will have more on this fishery in future posts or more likely these days reared Lochter fish trout. When I got there it was ni

Something I don't get asked for much is dry flies don't know why as they are fantastic throughout the summer month I will even try a dry in the milder days in winter and have had great success especially the daddy long legs.  But today I have decided to tie up some small spiders these can be fished on the surface with a little bit of flotant applied or leave them to sink and fish just under the surface and can be deadly for Brown Trout but don't forget these work great on still water as well. If you are interested in any of my lies come on over to my Facebook group GCFflyshop .

GCFflyshop 1st Blog

Well, this is my 1st blog ever as I am not a very confident writer due to my dyslexia all I can say is thank god for the spellchecker. My name is David Whyte (Davie), and I’m based in Aberdeen, “The Granite City”. I have been a fly fisherman for over 40 years, fishing on wild Rivers for Salmon and Trout, as well as in stocked fisheries; if there is a fish there that would take my fly I am there! Over the years I got more and more disappointed with the flies I was buying, I was sick of paying far too much for poor quality flies – so I started “Granite City Fishing” aka GCFflyshop my Facebook name. The only thing I had in mind was to supply anglers with quality flies at a reasonable cost! However, there has to be no compromise on quality, I would not want anyone fishing with flies that I wouldn’t use myself, and the only way I could guarantee that was by tying them myself so I started up Granite City Fishing, all flies are hand-tied by myself on quality hooks and materials most of which
